Efficacy of a combination of paclitaxel and radiation therapy against cutaneous angiosarcoma: A single‐institution retrospective study of 21 cases
The Journal of Dermatology Dec 14, 2021
Seo T, Kitamura S, Yanagi T, et al. - For treating cutaneous angiosarcoma (CAS, a rare malignant tumor), chemoradiotherapy with paclitaxel (PTX + RT) followed by maintenance taxane chemotherapy represents a better treatment strategy compared with other interventions, including surgery.
Superiority of chemoradiotherapy with taxanes over conventional surgery was revealed in a retrospective study of 28 CAS cases, and since then, PTX + RT is a standard treatment.
This is a retrospective investigation of 21 cases that had been treated for CAS.
Better prognosis in overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) (median OS, 28 months; median PFS, 12 months) was achieved in patients initially treated with PTX + RT followed by maintenance taxane chemotherapy, vs others (median OS, 10 months; median PFS, 5 months).
