Efficacy and tolerability of direct-acting antivirals for hepatitis C in older adults
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Jun 09, 2018
Mazzarelli C, et al. - In this retrospective review carried out between June 2014 and January 2017, researchers assessed the effectiveness and tolerability of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy in adults aged 65 and older by evaluating the outcomes for drug-drug interactions (DDIs), adverse events (AEs), and rates of sustained virologic response with DAA therapy. Findings demonstrated high efficacy of DAA therapy as a treatment option for hepatitis C virus in older adults. However, clinically significant pretreatment DDIs as well as AEs including ribavirin-induced anemia, during therapy were more likely to be observed in those aged 75 and older.
