Efficacy and safety of transscleral cyclophotocoagulation in Swedish glaucoma patients
Acta Ophthalmologica May 02, 2019
Rasmuson E, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers assessed the effectiveness and safety of all transscleral cyclophotocoagulation (TCP) treatments performed during a 5-year period in Swedish glaucoma patients. Medical records were assessed for all patients who received TCP treatment at Umeå University Hospital, Sweden, between 2010 and 2014. During the time period, 300 patients had TCP. This investigation exhibits a significant and long-term decrease in intraocular pressure following TCP with a reduction in topical and oral glaucoma drugs. No phthisis bulbi cases have been found. The treatment appears to be safe, but a concern that needs further evaluation is the decrease in visual acuity during follow-up.
