Efficacy and safety of tenofovir in preventing mother-to-infant transmission of hepatitis B virus: A meta-analysis based on 6 studies from China and 3 studies from other countries
BMC Gastroenterology Aug 08, 2018
Li W, et al. - Researchers performed this meta-analysis to test the safety and effectiveness of tenofovir in preventing perinatal transmission of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and also observing safety for mothers and infants. For this investigation, they systematically reviewed PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and CNKI (National Knowledge Infrastructure, China) database that assessed the effectiveness and safety of tenofovir vs other treatments. Inclusion criteria were met by 9 studies with 1,046 pregnant subjects. In HBV-infected mothers, tenofovir significantly decreased the rate of vertical transmission of HBV, and in addition the HBV DNA levels. For both mothers and their infants, tenofovir was safe and tolerable.
