Efficacy and safety of scalp acupuncture for insomnia: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine May 28, 2021
Liu FG, Tan AH, Peng CQ, et al. - Through searching CNKI, Wanfang database, CQVIP database, CBM, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, and PubMed, researchers sought to systematically assess the effectiveness and safety of scalp acupuncture in the treatment of insomnia. In total, 21 studies including 1,606 cases were included. According to this systematic review and meta-analysis, scalp acupuncture is useful in treating insomnia, and its effectiveness and safety outperform drugs and placebo treatments. Scalp acupuncture has therapeutic benefit in terms of promotion and use, but there is no substantial difference in effectiveness or safety as compared with other acupuncture therapies for insomnia. The final result may have been influenced to some extent by the quality of the included literature, the source of the literature, the design of the literature research, and the intervention measures of the control group.
