Efficacy and safety of oral vs vaginal misoprostol for cervical priming before hysteroscopy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Nov 22, 2019
Abdelhakim AM, et al. - Researchers examined the efficacy and safety of oral vs vaginal misoprostol for cervical priming before hysteroscopy via assessing the relevant evidence from published randomized clinical trials (RCTs) from electronic databases including PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Web of Science. They meta-analyzed eight RCTs with 768 patients. Outcomes revealed the similarity of oral and vaginal administration of misoprostol before hysteroscopy in terms of cervical canal width, ease of dilatation and various adverse effects, except the association of the vaginal route with faster cervical dilatation and lower prevalence of diarrhoea.
