Efficacy and safety of lidocaine infusion treatment for neuropathic pain: A randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled study
Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Apr 27, 2018
Kim YC, et al. - Whether repeated intravenous administration of low-dose lidocaine could provide prolonged pain relief in patients with specific neuropathic pain (NeP) conditions, was investigated in patients with postherpetic neuralgia or complex regional pain syndrome type II. Researchers compared the lidocaine infusion therapy (LIT) group, comprising those who received lidocaine infusions (3 mg/kg) and the control group who received normal saline infusions once a week for 4 consecutive weeks. Effective short-term pain relief was achieved with lidocaine infusion therapy (3 mg/kg of lidocaine administered over 1 hour). This attenuation of pain was substantially prominent after repeated infusions were administered to patients with refractory NeP. This treatment did not result in serious complications in any of the study participants.
