Efficacy and safety of intravenous meloxicam in patients with moderate-to-severe pain following bunionectomy: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
Clinical Journal of Pain Sep 12, 2018
Pollak RA, et al. - In patients with moderate-to-severe pain after a standardized, unilateral bunionectomy with first metatarsal osteotomy and internal fixation, researchers aimed at determining the analgesic effectiveness and safety of an intravenous (IV) formulation of meloxicam (30 mg) via a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. They randomized these pain patients to receive bolus injections of meloxicam IV 30 mg (n=100) or placebo (n=101) administered once daily. Patients with moderate-to-severe pain following bunionectomy effectively achieved pain relief when were administered meloxicam IV doses of 30 mg once daily by bolus injection. The treatment had an acceptable safety profile.
