Efficacy and safety of interventions to control myopia progression in children: An overview of systematic reviews and meta-analyses
BMC Ophthalmology May 21, 2019
Prousali E, et al. - Considering the increasing prevalence of myopia, researchers overviewed systematic reviews and meta-analyses focussing on halting progression of myopia, as high myopia can be complicated by a number of vision-compromising conditions. They analyzed 44 unique primary studies contained in 18 eligible reviews and involving 6400 children. As per data gained, atropine followed by orthokeratology and novel multifocal soft contact lenses could effectively control myopic progression. However, doctors are not convinced to uniformly embrace treatments for myopic progression control. This seems to be due to the existence of some heterogeneity, reporting of side effects and lack of long-term follow-up.
