Efficacy and safety of intense pulsed light with a KTP filter for the treatment of solar lentigines

Lasers in Surgery and Medicine Jul 13, 2019

Friedmann DP, et al. - The treatment of solar lentigines on the hands and face using an intense pulsed light (IPL) with a “potassium titanyl phosphate (KTP)-like” filter emitting a wavelength of 525–585 nm was investigated regarding efficacy and safety. In this single-center, prospective, open-label clinical trial, researchers treated 16 healthy Caucasian subjects (15 females, mean age, 55 years; skin types II and III) with hand and facial solar lentigines using three IPL treatment sessions with a KTP-like filter conducted at monthly intervals. Observations at follow-up visits revealed significant improvement in facial and hand pigmentation. They noted good to excellent outcomes in 74.6% of treated facial areas and 90% of treated hand regions one month following the last treatment session. In addition, participants showed good tolerability to IPL treatment with a KTP-like filter.
