Efficacy and safety of induction therapy with calcineurin inhibitors in combination with vedolizumab in patients with refractory ulcerative colitis
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Dec 07, 2018
Pellet G, et al. - In patients with active steroid-refractory ulcerative colitis (UC), researchers investigated the effectiveness and safety of induction therapy with calcineurin inhibitors in combination with vedolizumab. In this retrospective observational study, they analyzed data on 39 patients (31 with active severe UC and 36 failed treatment with a tumor necrosis factor antagonist) collected from 12 referral centers in France that were included in the Groupe d'Etude Thérapeutique des Affections Inflammatoires du tube Digestif. Findings suggest that colectomy could be avoided in two-thirds of patients by initiating treatment with a calcineurin inhibitor in combination with vedolizumab.
