Efficacy and safety of elcatonin in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis: A systematic review with network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
Osteoporosis International May 04, 2019
Chen WC, et al. - Because postmenopausal osteoporosis is an important issue in global aging trends, researchers assessed the safety and effectiveness of elcatonin in 2,754 women with postmenopausal osteoporosis from 16 trials in this meta-analysis. According to findings, elcatonin and non-elcatonin therapies had comparable rates of fracture and changes in bone mineral density. They suggested that combination therapy of elcatonin may be considered for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis based on current evidence because of its benefits on pain relief and complications. In addition, compared with anti-osteoporosis and calcium supplements, it demonstrated comparable fracture rate and bone mineral density change. However, further testing is needed to investigate elcatonin formula and dosage.
