Efficacy and safety of applying a neonatal early-onset sepsis risk calculator in China
Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health Feb 19, 2020
He Y, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective case–control study to assess and contrast the performance of the early-onset sepsis (EOS) risk calculator with procalcitonin (PCT), complete blood count (CBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP) for anticipating neonatal EOS. The sample consisted of neonates who were ≥ 34 weeks of gestation and ≤ 12 h of age at admission to the hospital between January 2017 and December 2018. In total, 501 neonates (353 infected and 148 uninfected infants) met the inclusion criteria for the study. The use of the EOS calculator in China showed a good predictive value compared with CBC and CRP by the EOS risk calculator and PCT. Risk scores from the EOS risk calculator were strongly correlated with EOS, and when used in combination with blood biomarkers the EOS risk calculator offered an increased predictive value.
