Efficacy and long-term effect of radiofrequency denervation in patients with clinically diagnosed cervical facet joint pain: A double-blind randomized controlled trial
Spine Feb 10, 2021
van Eerd M, de Meij N, Kessels A, et al. - Via performing a multicenter double-blind randomized sham-controlled trial, researchers aimed at determining the efficacy of radiofrequency (RF) denervation of the cervical facet joints in chronic cervical facet joint pain. They included 76 patients and randomized them to receive either RF denervation combined with bupivacaine (intervention group) or bupivacaine alone (control group). At 6 months follow-up, no significant differences were observed between RF denervation combined with injection of local anesthesia compared with local anesthesia only. The long-term effect showed a difference in favor of the RF treatment after 6 months follow-up.
