Effects of transversus abdominis plane block vs quadratus lumborum block on postoperative analgesia: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
BMC Anesthesiology May 08, 2020
Wang Y, et al. - Researchers analyzed 22 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) identified from online databases, including MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library (&Trail), Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang and QVIP, to assess the impacts of transversus abdominis plane block (TAPB) and quadratus lumborum block (QLB) in postoperative analgesia, via this meta-analysis. Overall 777 patients in the TAPB group and 783 cases in QLB group were examined. The included RCTs involved comparison of TAPB vs QLB in terms of postoperative analgesia. Findings revealed the superiority of QLB over TAPB in terms of providing reduction in morphine use, fentanyl use, visual analogue scale score at 24 h postoperatively, the number of patients needing analgesia postoperatively, and the incidence of dizziness.
