Effects of the two types of anorexia nervosa (binge eating/purging and restrictive) on bone metabolism in female patients
Clinical Endocrinology May 23, 2018
Maïmoun L, et al. - Experts sought to compare the profiles of the 2 types of anorexia nervosa (AN; restrictive: AN-R, and binge eating/purging: AN-BP) in terms of body composition, gynaecological status, disease history and the potential effects on bone metabolism. The profiles of AN patients according to AN type were seen in the study. Nonetheless, findings suggested that on bone status, the impact of the profile characteristics, although significant, was minor. It disappeared after multiple adjustments. the concept that energy disposal and bone metabolism are strongly interdependent was reinforced with the positive correlation between resting energy expenditure (REE) andbone mineral density (aBMD).
