Effects of terlipressin infusion during hepatobiliary surgery on systemic and splanchnic haemodynamics, renal function and blood loss: A double-blind, randomized clinical trial
BMC Anesthesiology Jun 20, 2019
Mahdy MM, et al. - In this prospective randomized study, researchers determined how portal venous pressure during hepatobiliary surgery is influenced by intraoperative terlipressin (a vasopressor which acts via V1 receptors) infusion. They also looked for the changes in systemic hemodynamics, estimated blood loss, and postoperative renal functions that resulted from intraoperative terlipressin infusion. Overall 50 patients undergoing hepatobiliary surgery were randomly and equally assigned to terlipressin group or a control group. Only the terlipressin group demonstrated a significant decrease in portal pressure over time. In this study, improvement in intraoperative portal hemodynamics with subsequent attenuation in blood loss was observed in relation to intraoperative infusion of terlipressin during hepatobiliary surgery.
