Effects of resistance plus aerobic training on body composition and metabolic markers in older breast cancer survivors undergoing aromatase inhibitor therapy
Experimental Gerontology Aug 09, 2018
de Paulo TRS, et al. - In older breast cancer survivors undergoing aromatase inhibitor therapy, researchers assessed how a combination of aerobic and resistance training influences body composition and metabolic markers. They measured body composition by DXA and blood markers of lipid and glucose at baseline, and 12, 24, and 36 weeks. The exercise group completed 40 minutes of resistance exercises on machines, with 30 minutes of aerobic training on a treadmill afterwards, three times per week. They observed that fat gain was prevented by the combination of aerobic and resistance exercise in older breast cancer survivors undergoing aromatase inhibitor therapy, still it may not have been enough to improve metabolic or bone health markers.
