Effects of physical activity in nursing home residents with dementia: A randomized controlled trial
Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders Aug 29, 2018
Henskens M, et al. - This randomized controlled trial was undertaken to determine if physical stimulation interventions in nursing home residents with dementia were effective in reducing cognitive, physical, mood, and behavioral decline. The data presented in this work showed 6-month activities of daily living (ADL) training benefitted executive functions, physical endurance, and depression among men. For nursing home residents with moderately severe dementia, ADL training seems to be effective. Results of this study suggested that ADL training can easily be applied by nursing staff and enables continuous stimulation of movement throughout the day.
