Effects of perioperative magnesium sulfate with controlled hypotension on intraoperative bleeding and postoperative ecchymosis and edema in open rhinoplasty
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Sep 17, 2020
Kosucu M, Tuğcugil E, Arslan E, et al. - Researchers sought to assess the impact of perioperative magnesium sulfate with controlled hypotension on intraoperative bleeding, postoperative ecchymosis and edema, and side-effects. For this randomized, double-blind study, 49 patients undergoing open rhinoplasty were divided into two groups - magnesium sulfate and control. Mean arterial pressure decreased during most of the perioperative period in the magnesium sulfate group. Intraoperative bleeding also minimized. In rhinoplasty surgery, magnesium sulfate with controlled hypotension can lower the upper and lower eyelids ecchymosis and edema by reducing bleeding.
