Effects of oral nutritional supplements on mortality, missed dialysis treatments, and nutritional markers in hemodialysis patients
Journal of Renal Nutrition Dec 13, 2017
Benner D, et al. - The associations between administration of oral nutritional supplements (ONS) and clinical and nutritional outcomes in end-stage renal disease patients undergoing dialysis were investigated in this study. Findings afforded corroboration that ONS exerted beneficial effects in attenuating mortality and improving some indices of nutritional status for hypoalbuminemic hemodialysis patients. Notably, ONS could reduce the number of missed dialysis treatments. Overall, the use of intradialytic ONS was supported as an effective intervention to improve the outcomes in hemodialysis patients with low serum albumin.
