Effects of neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio on renal function and histologic lesions in patients with diabetic nephropathy
Nephrology Dec 01, 2018
Zhang J, et al. - In this study of retrospectively included 247 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and biopsy-proven diabetic nephropathy (DN), researchers assessed the cross-sectional associations of neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with renal function and structural lesions of DN. Using the criteria of Renal Pathology Society, they assessed the severity of different pathological lesions. Based on the median (2.42) of NLR level, two groups of patients were formed: group 1: NLR <2.42(n=122) and group 2: NLR≥2.42(n=125). According to findings, an impact of increased NLR on renal function and histologic lesions was seen in patients with T2DM. Furthermore, increased NLR could be an important factor for the progression of DN.
