Effects of nasal septum perforation repair on nasal airflow: An analysis using computational fluid dynamics on preoperative and postoperative three-dimensional models
Auris Nasus Larynx Mar 20, 2018
Nomura T, et al. - In this study, the changes in nasal airflow dynamics before and after the nasal perforation repair were examined by the experts via preoperative and postoperative computed tomography (CT) images. Using computer fluid dynamics (CFD), the effects of septal perforation repair on airflow dynamics were evaluated. The clinical symptom such as nasal bleeding and pain could be found in association with the high wall shear (WS), pressure gradient (PG) and shear strain rate (SSR) observed at the edge of the septal perforation. The nasal symptom was appeared to be due to the turbulence kinetic energy (TKE).
