Effects of MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms on migraine susceptibility: A meta-analysis of 26 studies
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain Jul 14, 2019
Liu L, et al. - Through this meta-analysis, researchers assessed the links between 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and migraine risk. They analyzed 26 relevant studies (20 in Caucasians, 3 in Asians, 2 in Indians, and 1 in Pakistanis) including migraineurs (n=10,228) and controls (n=28,608). These studies were identified from PubMed, EmBase, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane Library. An increased risk for total migraine and migraine with aura (MA), but not migraine without aura (MO), was reported in relation to the allele 677T and TT genotype, in the overall population. The possibility of allele 677T in MTHFR C677T polymorphism to be a genetic risk factor for MA in Caucasians was suggested in this study. In addition, a possible contribution of genotype 1298CC to MO susceptibility was suggested.
