Effects of mean arterial pressure on arousal in sedated ventilated patients with septic shock: A SEPSISPAM post hoc exploratory study
Annals of Intensive Care May 13, 2019
Jouan Y, et al. - In this post hoc exploratory analysis of the SEPSISPAM trial, researchers investigated if a mean arterial pressure (MAP) target higher than the recommended MAP target of 65 mmHg in patients with septic shock could improve the level of arousal. In SEPSISPAM, mortality in patients with septic shock was assessed in relation to a “high-target” level of MAP (80–85 mmHg) vs the recommended “low-target” MAP (65–70 mm Hg). In the participants of this study ie, patients with septic shock who were mechanically ventilated and sedated and had arousal level assessed by the Richmond Agitation and Sedation Scale, a higher arousal level was observed in relation to resuscitation with MAP target between 80 and 85 mmHg vs a MAP target between 65 and 70 mmHg.
