Effects of long-term treatment with Dienogest on the quality of life and sexual function of women affected by endometriosis-associated pelvic pain
Journal of Pain Research Aug 01, 2019
Caruso S, et al. - In this prospective study of women affected by endometriosis pain, researchers evaluated the quality of life (QoL) and sexual function of these women following Dienogest (DNG) treatment for 24 months. The study group was comprised of 54 women who were given DNG 2 mg/daily; the control group was comprised of 38 women who were given non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The study group showed slight improvements in chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, and dyspareunia at 3 months and showed more improvement from 6 to 24 months. A similar trend in QoL improvement was noted: several categories showed significant improvement at 3 months, and all categories showed significant improvement from 6 to 24 months. No improvement in the Female Sexual Function Index score at the 3-month follow-up was observed however, it improved from 6 to 24 months. The Female Sexual Distress Scale score was noted to have a similar trend. The control group showed no change. In line with previous work, this study demonstrated the positive effect of long-term treatment with DNG 2 mg once-daily in women with endometriosis-associated pelvic pain on the QoL and sexual life.
