Effects of lixisenatide on postprandial blood pressure, gastric emptying, and glycemia in healthy people and people with type 2 diabetes
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Mar 20, 2019
Jones KL, et al. – Researchers examined the impact of lixisenatide on gastric emptying and blood pressure (BP) and superior mesenteric artery (SMA) blood flow, and also assessed glycemic responses to a 75-g oral glucose load in healthy people and individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Lixisenatide reduced gastric emptying, mitigated the rise in SMA flow, and attenuated the decrease in systolic BP vs placebo in both healthy participants and those with T2DM, according to findings. The investigators noted elevated plasma glucose levels in diabetics vs healthy participants, and lower following lixisenatide in both groups. Overall, the authors suggested lixisenatide may have clinical utility in the management of postprandial hypotension.
