Effects of high-voltage electrical burns and other burns on levels of serum oxidative stress and telomerase in children

Burns Jul 27, 2018

Gürünlüoglu K, et al. - Changes in levels of serum oxidative stress and telomerase were measured in children suffering from high-voltage electrical burn (HVEB) injuries and other burns. Researchers also determined the significance of these parameters in terms of amputation. Findings suggest that compared to thermal burns, HVEBs are more destructive; damage may progress over time, and healing takes longer. Measuring levels of oxidative stress indicators may assist in following biochemical healing. Evaluation of these indicators may predict amputation, if indications were not clear initially, affording therapeutic advantages.
