Microbial Pathogenesis Feb 19, 2018
Ren X, et al. - This retrospective analysis was performed to assess the impact of fluconazole treatment on the clinical outcome and immune response in fungal co-infected tuberculosis patients. Authors observed that fluconazole stimulated eosinophils population and secretion of inflammatory cytokines interferon (IFN)-γ and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-&alph;. T helper 1 cells percentage (Th1%) and chemokines increased with fluconazole treatment. Findings here suggested that during tuberculosis, fungal infection significantly affected host immunity which was effectively reversed by fluconazole treatment.
