Effects of family history on relative and absolute risks for colorectal cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Nov 10, 2019
Roos VH, Mangas-Sanjuan C, Rodriguez-Girondo M, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis of 42 case-control and 20 cohort studies, researchers examined the effect of family history on colorectal cancer (CRC) risk. They found that among first-degree relatives, the relative risks of CRC was lower compared with previously estimated, particularly based on cohort studies. Moreover, they noted that the number of relatives with CRC and their ages at diagnosis affected the risk estimates. Thus, for high-risk groups, intensified colonoscopy surveillance approaches should be considered.
