Effects of exercise in addition to a family-based lifestyle intervention program on hepatic fat in children with overweight
Diabetes Care Jun 27, 2019
Labayen I, et al. - In children with overweight/obesity, researchers ascertained if adding supervised exercise to a family-based lifestyle and psycho-educational intervention results in a larger decrease in the percentage of hepatic fat (HF), adiposity, and cardiometabolic risk factors. Participants in the study were 116 overweight/obese children living in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain); 102 children finished the trial. According to this nonrandomized, two-arm, parallel design clinical trial, BMI, FMI, abdominal fat, and insulin were decreased in both groups. Percentage of HF decreased only in the intervention group. Multicomponent intervention programs involving exercise training may assist decrease overweight/obese children's adiposity, insulin resistance, and hepatic steatosis.
