Effects of discontinuation of urate-lowering therapy: A systematic review
Journal of General Internal Medicine Dec 15, 2017
Beslon V, et al. - This research encompassed the determination of the recurrence of gouty arthritis, tophi, or urolithiasis after discontinuation of urate-lowering therapy (ULT). Authors also examined the ULT reintroduction rates and factors related to the relapse. Following the discontinuation of ULT, relapse of gout was found to be delayed yet common. Short-term prognosis after ULT discontinuation was favorable if the serum urate level was low before ULT discontinuation. Advanced studies with larger primary care populations and discontinuation of febuxostat were warranted.
