Effects of diet and exercise-induced weight loss on biomarkers of inflammation in breast cancer survivors: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention May 18, 2021
Bruinsma TJ, Dyer AM, Rogers CJ, et al. - This investigation was carried out among breast cancer survivors to determine how lifestyle modifications (exercise only, or combined caloric restriction and exercise) could impact adipokines, IL2, IL6, IL8, IL10, C-reactive protein, and TNFα biomarkers in this population. Researchers found 2501 records, with 30 ultimately fulfilling inclusion criteria of the systematic review; 21 studies offered data appropriate for meta-analysis. In the exercise-only group, significantly reduced leptin levels were detected, vs sedentary control. Overall, exercise-induced improvements in breast cancer recurrence may be mediated primarily by leptin.
