Effects of continuous positive airway pressure on cardiovascular biomarkers in patients with obstructive sleep apnea: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Sleep and Breathing Apr 28, 2018
Ning Y, et al. - Researchers evaluated the impacts of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) on cardiovascular biomarkers and identified predictors of response to CPAP. By consensus, randomized controlled trials reporting impacts of CPAP on high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin 6, tumor necrosis factor- alpha, augmentation index (AIx), pulse wave velocity, and flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients were selected. Inflammatory marker hs-CRP, arterial stiffness marker AIx, and endothelial function marker FMD were all improved with CPAP in patients with OSA. Regarding response to treatment, these biomarkers may be informative.
