Effects of common genetic variants associated with colorectal cancer risk on survival outcomes after diagnosis: A large population-based cohort study
International Journal of Cancer Aug 02, 2019
He Y, Theodoratou E, Li X, et al. - Researchers looked for any possible link between genetic variants associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) risk and CRC prognosis in this analysis in a well-characterized population-based study including 5,675 patients following CRC diagnosis in Scotland. They also determined if these variants might offer predictive value for survival outcome. No link was found between genetic risk variants and overall survival or CRC-specific survival. As this investigation is well-powered ( > 0.88) to identify impacts on survival for 74% of the variants, experts concluded that a clinically relevant effect of common variants associated with CRC risk, including all identified to date, on survival outcomes for patients diagnosed with CRC is unlikely.
