Effects of coffee intake on incident chronic kidney disease: Community-based prospective cohort study
American Journal of Medicine Jun 16, 2018
Jhee JH, et al. - The impact of coffee intake on the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the general population was investigated in this analysis. Eight thousand, seven hundred seventeen patients with normal renal function enrolled from the KoGES cohort were examined. Coffee consumption was categorized into five groups: 0/week, <1 cup/week, 1-6 cups/week, 1 cup/day, and ≥2 cups/day based on food frequency questionnaire. Incident chronic kidney disease defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) <60 mL/min/1.73 m2 was the primary outcome. According to the findings, daily coffee intake was correlated with reduced risk of the development of CKD.
