Effects of chronic kidney disease on hemiarthroplasty outcomes for fragility hip fracture in diabetic patients: A nationwide population-based observational study
Journal of Arthroplasty Sep 26, 2019
Lin SJ, et al. - In diabetic patients with different renal function statuses, researchers compared perioperative outcomes, readmission, and mortality after hemiarthroplasty for hip fractures. From the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database, diabetic patients who received primary hemiarthroplasty for hip fracture between January 1997 and December 2013 were identified. A total of 29,535 diabetic patients were involved in this retrospective population-based cohort study. Findings suggested an association of chronic kidney disease (CKD) with poor outcomes following hemiarthroplasty for fragility hip fracture. CKD patients may be at greater risk of surgical complications including revision than non-CKD patients and have considerably increased readmission and mortality hazards.
