The Journal of Rheumatology Jun 06, 2021
Groot N, Kardolus A, Bijl M, et al. - This study sought to present the effects of childhood-onset systemic lupus erythematosus (cSLE) on education, vocation, and employment in a large cohort of adults with cSLE. Via questionnaires, Education and employment status were evaluated. Researchers evaluated health-related quality of life with the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey. The study enrolled a total of 106 patients with cSLE (93% female, 73% White), with a median disease duration of 20 years. Despite individuals adjusting their educational and vocational choices, the effect of cSLE on academic achievements and employment is substantial. The findings reveal that ongoing support is necessary to optimize participation in the community, not only to help patients find suitable education and vocations but also to offer guidance regarding potential adjustments during their career.
