Effects of blood flow restricted exercise training on muscular strength and blood flow in older adults
Experimental Gerontology Oct 19, 2017
Kim J, et al. - This research was designed to compare the effects of 4 weeks of blood flow restricted exercise (BFRE) training on skeletal muscle strength and blood flow between young and older subjects and between older adults performing BFRE and conventional high-intensity resistance exercise. The physicians proposed that in young adults, chronic BFRE training was effective in increasing muscular strength, muscle size and vascularity. However, in older adults, it increased only muscular strength and size. To evoke similar vascular adaptations in older adults, longer training durations or higher volumes could be required.
