Effects of birth weight on body composition and overweight/obesity at early school age
Clinical Nutrition Jul 31, 2019
Zhou J, Zeng L, Wang D, et al. - In this investigation, researchers described the impact of birth weight on body composition and overweight/obesity at early school age. The study sample consisted of 1,669 children with available birth records from a double-blind cluster-randomized controlled trial investigating micronutrient supplementation during pregnancy. Participants in the study were 1,004 boys and 665 girls aged between 7 and 10 years. Among 7- to 10-year-old boys in rural western China, the higher birth weight could increase the risk of being overweight/obese. When planning interventions, sex differences in this connection need to be considered.
