Effects of an evidence-informed healthy eating blog on dietary intakes and food-related behaviors of mothers of preschool- and school-aged children: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Sep 16, 2019
Dumas AA, et al. - In this parallel, randomized, controlled trial, researchers examined how dietary intakes, especially intake of vegetables and fruit and milk and alternatives, as well as food-related behaviors of Canadian mothers, are influenced by an evidence-informed healthy eating blog written by a registered dietitian (RD). Participants were 84 French-speaking adult mothers of children aged between 2 and 12 years residing in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada, from whom data were collected and analyzed. The intervention was delivered to improve diet quality by boosting vegetables and fruit and milk and alternatives intake in mothers—for 6 months at a dose of one new post written by an RD each week. The mothers could post comments on the blog to engage with the RD and fellow participants. Findings revealed that dietary intakes, food-related behaviors, and body weight of mothers remained unaltered after 6 months of their participation in this intervention of healthy eating blog, at a dose of 1 post per week.
