Effects of a medication review on delirium in older hospitalised patients: A comparative retrospective cohort study
Drugs & Aging Feb 07, 2018
van Velthuijsen EL, et al. - In this study conducted at Maastricht University Medical Centre, researchers looked at the impacts of medication review on length of delirium, length of hospital stay, mortality, and discharge destination among older hospitalised patients. Furthermore, they described and analyzed the proposed changes to medication and its implementation by the treating physician. They reported that a medication review seemingly results in significant decrease in the length of an older patient’s delirious episode. This finding holds clinical relevance and hence, medication reviews were recommended for all older patients who are delirious or are at risk of developing delirium.
