Effects of a 12-week mHealth program on functional capacity and physical activity in patients with peripheral artery disease
The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 09, 2018
Duscha BD, et al. - Researchers compared functional capacity and physical activity patterns among peripheral artery disease (PAD) patients with intermittent claudication (IC) randomized into usual care or a 12-week mobile health (mHealth) intervention consisting of patient education, smartphones and physical activity trackers. They found that peak VO2 and claudication onset time in PAD patients with IC were significantly improved after a 12-week mHealth intervention, while no such benefits were seen with usual care. Furthermore, for those patients who cannot participate in the supervised exercise, the mHealth interventions are considered as a promising alternative therapy.
