Effectiveness of sodium bicarbonate infusion on mortality in septic patients with metabolic acidosis
Intensive Care Medicine Oct 04, 2018
Zhang Z, et al. - Researchers assessed the effectiveness of sodium bicarbonate (SB) infusion in septic patients with metabolic acidosis who were identified using the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-III database. Study participants included 1,718 septic patients with metabolic acidosis: 500 in the SB group and 1,218 in the non-SB group. Findings revealed that septic patients with metabolic acidosis demonstrated no improved outcomes in correlation with SB infusion; however, in septic patients with acute kidney injury stage II or III and severe acidosis, the infusion seemed correlated with improved survival.
