Effectiveness of pregabalin treatment for neuropathic pain in patients with spine diseases: A pooled analysis of two multicenter observational studies in Japan
Journal of Pain Research Mar 19, 2021
Taguchi T, Nakano S, Nozawa K., et al. - In patients with spine diseases in routine primary care settings, researchers sought to assess the efficacy of pregabalin for chronic pain with neuropathic pain (NeP) component this pooled analysis. Patients with chronic low back pain with accompanying lower limb pain (NeP component) and patients with chronic cervical pain with accompanying upper limb radiating pain (NeP component) in routine primary care settings in Japan were enrolled in two 8-week prospective observational cohort studies. A total of 700 patients were included in the pooled dataset (pregabalin group: 302; usual care group: 398). From baseline to week 8, all patient-reported outcomes (PRO) scores significantly improved in the pregabalin vs the usual care group. Regardless of the primary diagnosis, all three PRO measures showed more improvement in the pregabalin vs the usual care group. AEs were reported in 36.1% of the pregabalin group. In patients with chronic NeP from various spine diseases, pregabalin was effective for a number of PRO measures.
