Effectiveness of oral hydration in preventing contrast-induced acute kidney injury in patients undergoing coronary angiography or intervention: A pairwise and network meta-analysis

Coronary Artery Disease May 09, 2018

Zhang W, et al. - Researchers assessed the efficacy of oral hydration vs intravenous hydration and other commonly used hydration strategies in preventing contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI) in patients undergoing coronary angiography or intervention. A pairwise and network meta-analysis of eligible studies from PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane central register of controlled trials was conducted using RevMan5.2 and Aggregate Data Drug Information System 1.16.8 software. Findings demonstrated non-inferiority of oral hydration, as compared with intravenous hydration, for the prevention of CI-AKI in patients with normal or mild-to-moderate renal dysfunction undergoing coronary angiography or intervention. As per rank probability plot, oral plus intravenous hydration showed a higher probability of being the best strategy, followed by diuretic plus intravenous hydration and oral hydration alone.
