Offeddu V, et al. – Authors performed this systematic review and meta–analysis to assess the protective effect of facemasks and respirators against respiratory infections among healthcare workers. Findings support the use of respiratory protection. Sparse existing evidence and inconsistent findings within and across studies led the researchers to recommend for multi–centre RCTs with standardized protocols outside epidemic periods to clarify the circumstances under which the use of masks or respirators seemed most warranted.
