Effectiveness of direct-acting agents for hepatitis C and liver stiffness changing after sustained virological response
Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology May 25, 2019
Fernandes FF, et al. - In this retrospective study involving 671 patients, researchers characterized the efficacy of direct antivirals (DAAs) for HCV treatment and evaluated the change in liver stiffness measurement (LSM) after sustained virological response (SVR) is achieved. From 2015 to 2017, data of consecutive HCV-infected patients treated by DAAs in two tertiary centers in Brazil were analyzed. Anemia was the leading adverse event. In a real-life cohort in Brazil, DAAs were highly effective and safe and after SVR LSM was significantly reduced. Lack of type 2 diabetes and the presence of high platelet count were independently linked to LSM decrease after SVR.
