Williams DJ, et al. - A comparative assessment was pursued of the effectiveness of β-lactam monotherapy with β-lactam plus macrolide combination therapy, in children who were hospitalized with pneumonia. No benefit was gained via the empirical macrolide combination therapy over β-lactam monotherapy for the study cohort. The yielded data gave rise to questions regarding the routine empirical use of macrolide combination therapy in this population.
