Effectiveness of a hydrogel dressing as an analgesic adjunct to first aid for the treatment of acute pediatric burn injuries: A prospective randomised controlled trial
BMJ Open Jan 08, 2021
Holbert MD, Kimble RM, Chatfield M, et al. - Two acute burn dressings, Burnaid hydrogel dressing and plasticised polyvinylchloride film, were compared regarding their effectiveness in lowering acute pain scores in pediatric burn patients following appropriate first aid. Researchers conducted a single-centre, superiority, two-arm, parallel-group, prospective randomized controlled trial recruiting and randomizing 72 children; 37 participants were randomised to receive Burnaid hydrogel dressing (intervention) and 35 received plasticised polyvinylchloride film (Control) as an acute burn dressing. Outcomes of this investigation did not reveal any clear benefit of Burnaid hydrogel dressing as an analgesic adjunct to first aid for the treatment of acute pediatric burns.
